Even before I was officially diagnosed with autism, ADHD and bipolar, I realized that I had iffy judgment and questionable executive functioning, and consequently was prone to making bad decisions.
My wife has much better judgment and infinitely superior executive functioning. She’s able to not only function in the world but thrive. It’s amazing.
So when she gives me advice, I listen. When I told her that my wonderful paid subscribers had voted for me to see The Brutalist, a three and a half hour long Holocaust drama she said that that sounded like a bad idea that would bum me the fuck out.
I tend to see the last screening of the movies I see for Nathan Rabin’s Bad Ideas so that I’ll be able to spend the rest of the weekend with my family, which means that if I see The Brutalist at ten then, with a half hour of trailers, I’ll get out at two in the morning all exhausted and worn our and depleted and shit.
I’m sure The Brutalist is a fine film but I would really appreciate an excuse to see a movie that’s more than half as short and probably nowhere near dispiriting like Flight Risk.
What do y'all think? Should I follow my wife’s wise advice or spend four hours getting brutal with The Brutalist? I am intrigued that it stars the man who portrayed Flirty Harry in InAPPropriate Comedy and big-
upped the whole Kingston Massive when unforgettably hosting Saturday Night Live but The Brutalist doesn’t look as gut-busting as his best work.
Honestly, I only voted for The Brutalists because Gibson is famously a massive bigot and Walberg has committed 4 separate violent hate crimes. Fuck supporting them. Watch something else, watch anything else. If ever there was a week for self care, this is it.
Plenty of Nazis in the news lately, no need to inflict more of that on yourself.
