I like that the film's X factor is called out. I recall only kind of liking Thinner when I first saw it, but I also never forgot it, even if it's not remotely powerful, just somehow memorable.

I read this book in high school,not too long after I read a sadly out of print copy of 'The Bachman Books'.I would love to have my old copy of it back,and not just because 'Rage' was included.It had some really decent writing from King,even if(or despite) the fact that the pen name was pretty flimsy.'Thinner',though,was,well,a cash grab,in my 15 year old estimation.The gypsies were,as you said,not very fleshed out,and the moral was less than subtle.The characters,though,were pretty well drawn,despite the,well,thinness of the plot.Sigh.
