I'm finding most people, and not just MAGAt incels, consider it "inessential". I tried to talk my two closest friends, both women, into seeing it with me and they were both "Ehh—couldn't we wait and see NAPOLEON instead?"

So, I'm going alone, soon as I find a theater in New Jersey that plays it in something other than Standard screen.

What is it about this Napoleon movie that's got women so ready to see it? Every time my wife and I open Apple TV+, she points out that it says it's coming soon. I recently told her that it comes out in November and only in theaters and she got miffed.

I got no idea, WilliamB. We were supposed to go after Thanksgiving dinner, but one of my friends opens up for her local Trader Joe's in NYC, and she needs to go to bed by around 7 or 8 pm. We'll go see if on one of her days off.

I'm going to see it w/them because it's Ridley Scott (who CAN be great—or really lame!), and it's his "Big One", the movie he's always wanted to make. That's no guarantee of quality, but it should be a guarantee of...an experience, at least!

Me really enjoyed this one, and it frustrating that nearly all of negative press it got was due to unfuckable nerd bros whining, or "Marvel fatigue" hot takes that had nothing to do with this movie in particular.

Me agree that Iman Vellani was delightful — me originally just tuned in to Ms. Marvel to see if my neighborhood in Jersey City made it into show, and she won me over, to point where me kept watching after kids lost interest. So if, as post-credits stinger suggests, Ms. Marvel will be central to future MCU endeavors, that more likely to keep me watching these than yet another X-Men semi-reboot.

Lastly, while me often like when movies reference past events that give events of movie context, this one do that so often that it feels like there was entire Captain Marvel 2 that we just not get to see, and me probably would have enjoyed that one too.

I think the main reason for it's underperformance is people got super burned-out on Marvel, not because of the movies, but because of the endless TV shows. I even think the glut of Star Wars shows may have had a fatigue impact. The pandemic may have pushed Disney to produce more shows for streaming, but they probably needed to return to theaters with something big. Fantastic Four or X-Men or a Hulk movie or something, I don't know. I guess Guardians filled that slot, but so many of their recent and current slate relies not just on pre-pandemic (and pre-Endgame) characters, but on TV show continuity. It's a lot.

I'm avoiding the full review because I don't want *any* spoilers, but I came in to say that the "Ms Marvel" series on Disney+ was a delight. It was also different in that it was intentionally aimed at a younger, female demographic, and so the content reflected that. So, it is not a show for someone who is seeking out mature content. (And it goes without saying that it's not for edgelords or incels.)

Iman Vellani and Kamala Khan are both charming as hell, and that charm extends to the overall series. In terms of "lighter" Marvel fare, it's along the same lines as "Hawkeye" (which I also really liked), in that they're both about family (related or found) as much as they are about heroes fighting villains.

I'm fatigued of Marvel but I like Kamala and so does my wife so I think we will stream it someday down the line when we need something to do on a Saturday night. Glad you like it,and the people rooting against it can go screw.

Incidentally, I saw a Facdbook post touting its 61% Fresh Status on Rotten tomatoes (and I have my own problems with RT as areliable source of discourse). One hater piped up "Yeah, well, it's the audience score that matters."

Dear reader, as of this writing the audience score is over 80%.

This is one that I would like to see - I wasn't crazy about Captain Marvel, with the exception of the Mallrats callout and Goose (I'm not even a cat person), but I really liked WandaVision and the Ms. Marvel TV series, plus the hook of them switching places sounds fun, too.

Regarding Kelsey Grammer in X3... as much as I know the movie is flawed, he was an inspired casting choice, giving Beast a voice of authority that fit really well. Sure, when his stunt double/CGI jumped into action, it became far-fetched, but otherwise he was great. As far as his film roles go, this is probably his finest and it's one I don't mind revisiting.

Yes, I like the new Frasier reboot, too.

I am genuinely curious about how the "we'll just have the kittens temporarily eat everyone" scene came about; also, good lord, the setpiece set to "Memory." Reader, I laughed maniacally.
