Did I miss it, or did you not review Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam? It is totally bat shirt crazy and the first time Ernest shows up in film. Maybe if you didn’t, it will be a good way to cleanse the pallet after the last few.
Also directed by John R. Cherry III - neat. Some wag on L*tt*rb*xd claims that this man is just as responsible for the Ernest character as Jim Varney, which seems like an outrageous claim but maybe also accurate. More research needed.
As far as I can tell, that chap directed only 1 movie that did not feature Jim Varney: the very poorly rated <i>The All New Adventures of Laurel & Hardy in For Love or Mummy</i>.
