I've done the Regal 4DX thing a couple of times, for superhero stuff. I can confidently say it mildly improves the viewing experience of Doctor Strange 2.
But the idea that it could in any way be compatible with an *Exorcist* film is insane, bordering on offensive. The whole point is atmosphere and dread and creepy imagery and poking at your lapsed-Catholic guilt. That is absolutely incompatible with tilting your chair around while they squirt water in your face -- if your "Exorcist" movie is something you're even considering releasing in 4D, you done fucked up.
Also, "I won’t spoil it for you but it involves getting stabbed in the eyes." had me cackling. What a great write-up. What a terrible film.
See, now I genuinely want to see this movie! People have been HATING it! And, like, Exorcist II exists!! There's a mess of terrible Exorcist sequels (every sequel except 3 and The Ninth Configuration) so I'm not sure what this one is doing to get it to the top of people's shitlists but I'm excited to (illegally) find out!
I'm one of the few people on Earth, it seems, who liked EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC, and think it would've done better had it not been marketed as an EXORCIST sequel. Love it or hate it, E2 was definitely not a slapdash sequel to a hit movie that did the same thing, only different.
THIS movie sounds like THE EXORCIST sequel audiences were expecting back in 1977—"It's just like THE EXORCIST, only this time with TWO little demonically-possessed girls! TWICE the terror! TWICE the excitement! TWICE the pea soup in the face!"
The reason it’s the worst is because it’s not even distinctive as a bad Exorcist sequel. It’s just generic. This won’t be fun or exciting to watch as a bad movie. You’ll be bored.
You won't have to wait long. It's already been announced that they're releasing it to VOD on 10/24. In a related note, Expend4bles just dropped on VOD as well. I guess if the word of mouth is bad and box office middling, then that theater-to-home window just gets shorter and shorter.
I went to see CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON in 3D with my best friend tonight (yes, the one from 1954!). When we got out I mentioned to her all the terrible, horrible reviews of this movie I'd read, and her response was, "But we're still seeing it, right?"
So...looks like me and my Bestie are seeing THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER. Pray for me....
Isn't it strange that when it was first announced that the director and co-star of The Pineapple Express would be co-writing a Halloween movie with Green directing, I know I was a little excited by the prospect as I'm sure others were (or at least concerned). Now that I've seen the series and that Green is taking a similar approach to The Exorcist, I realize they probably shouldn't be messing with popular horror franchises. I'll still watch this, but like the last two Halloween entries (and honestly the first one, too), I fear I'll end up with the same thought afterwards - did they really think they had something here?
Walked out of a 4D Justice League screening ten minutes in. Thanksfully short enough to get a refund. I know money is the real demon possessing us all, but shouldn't everyone be over these lame franchise reboots by now?

Whoop-de-doo....
I just the other day found this intriguing defense of Exorcist II: https://outlawvern.com/2023/10/04/exorcist-ii-the-heretic/
I haven't seen it yet but I think I will this spooky season. I love John Boorman. He swings for the fences every time.
Thanks! I enjoyed reading it, and thought it picked up on a few things I didn't, like what was going on between Father Loomis and Dr. Tuskin.

Damn, I’m sorry I recommended this. The trailer made it look at least approachable.
My favorite part of the film is the Ralph Wiggim nod when one of the characters opens a valentines card and yells “I choo-choo choose you!”
