Me have (significantly older) kids who grew up on these books, and me glad to see movie version did them justice. Pilkey is treasure — his books are full of poop jokes and terrible puns, and yet surprisingly smart and emotionally resonant. Me have read and watched lot of sci-fi, and me can honestly say that most logically-consistent version of time travel me have ever found in fiction is "Captain Underpants and Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers."
I'm a school librarian and always have to defend Pilkey's books. Captain Underpants, this, and the earlier Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot. I always say come for the toilet humor, stay for the heart.
In Captain Underpants one of them main characters in the future is (spoiler) revealed to be gay. He and his husband hav kids. Nothing big is made of it. It's almost a throwaway. Because that's what it should be in this story. Pilkey rocks.
This just gave me a flashback to how surprisingly moving the Lil' Petey plot was in the original book. My daughter was not super into this series, but we both enjoyed it for what it was.

Oh snap! I haven't seen you in awhile. Me always liked your comments on AV Club.
Me still there! Me stopped commenting when site became AI heckscape and came back when they brought Danette back to fix things,
I just want to say that my kid loves your work on Sesame Street and sometimes says "Om non nom!" when eating.
Same.

Yep, just as I suspected Dav Pilkey has ADHD. He's also dyslexic.
