I started reading your movie reviews in The Onion in the very early aughts while growing up in Chicago and I am so stoked to find you here on Substack. I would wait in giddy anticipation for a bad film to debut so I could read you absolutely, hysterically shredding it to pieces. It’s not worth much, but you were an important early influence, along with Cintra Wilson, who wrote for Jezebel waaaay back in the day; and she is also here on Substack. You guys made critical writing cool and funny, and I’m awfully grateful to still be reading your work.
Thank you for sharing your struggle. As an autistic freelancer who also has no idea what the fuck he's doing it's encouraging to hear even the best in the field also feels lost sometimes
I think you'd have better luck promoting pre-sales of 'The Fractured Mirror' on Amazon. People are weary of giving out their credit card information on smaller sites for security reasons.
As I read, I told myself, "If I see C.G. Dopey at the end of this, I'll buy a book, maybe two." But I'll buy a book anyway, once this current adventure I'm on brings me back home where hopefully a cheque is waiting in the mailbox...
Been reading you since I was a kid picking up the onion at the convenience store. Keep on doing what you do. I plan on buying The Fractured Mirror and I keep Happy Place and Bad Ideas bookmarked on my work pc to visit everyday multiple times a day during breaks or downtime. You're a great writer.

All this to say I’ll be buying the book:)
There's a lot of cultural damage the Gawker/Barsanti-era AV Club inflicted on the criticism space.
