I voted for this, because Nathan is the only critic I like, and I enjoy hearing about Marvel movies from people who aren't complete devotees.

I was going to see this Sunday, but the local Alamo Drafthouse had some problems and suggested not coming in and getting a refund instead, so we did.

I'm still going to see it because David Ehrlich hates it, too, and since Ehrlich is every bad thing you think about film critics rolled into a single human being (like Jay Sherman, only without the wit or charm), I have a reasonable chance of enjoying this movie.

The TV shows have been pretty good even as the movies have been increasingly lackluster.

But here's hoping Fantastic Four is as good as the trailer.

FYI, Paddington in Peru is already available for streaming if you wanted to skip the theater (and maybe save a couple of bucks).

You summed it up in the title. Right now MCU keeps offering more of the same and at this point it's. hard to make that special.

Isaiah Bradley/Carl Lumbly was one of the best things about "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" TV series, which first set up Anthony Mackie as Captain America in a surprisingly personal storyline. The other best things were Sebastian Stan's performance, and Daniel Brühl dancing in a rave club. Come to think of it, I liked quite a lot about that series, but the entire villain story was a complete mess thanks to extensive rewrites necessitated by COVID.

Previously in the MCU, General Ross had been portrayed by the late William Hurt. I suppose if you have to replace someone of his stature, then Harrison Ford is a pretty good get. I'm sure I will see this movie on Disney+ eventually, but already I can't help thinking that Mackie deserved better.

Since I never really bought William Hurt as "Thunderbolt" Ross? Harrison Ford's a good choice—though so's Sam Elliott who played him in Ang Lee's HULK movie.

I understand there were some issues with the motion capture of Ford as Red Hulk—in addition to his inherent sweet and gentle nature! 🧐 I saw some "making-of" stuff online where they said Ford moved slowly and stiffly, like an 82-year old man with back injuries and Parkinson's Disease, so they had to substitute a lot of his Red Hulk action with a younger stuntman.

That makes complete sense to me, I'm surprised they even insisted on doing any mocap with Ford anyway. The guy's paid his dues!

Agreed that Sam Elliott was good casting as Ross.

They needed his face, I guess—you got to admit, Red Hulk looks like what Harrison Ford would look like if he were insanely 'roided up.

I agree Ford's paid his dues, but—it's also some of the people just doing their jobs he's been known to lash out at.
