I’m in the minority in thinking Johnson isn’t some subversive genius but someone who either knows her privilege exempts her from the game or who is kind of dumb and doesn’t recognize the game exists. She doesn’t have to do anything she doesn’t want to, but she’s most famous for this dreck and 50 Shades of Gray.
I maintain that this movie is better than its reputation -- not that it is GOOD, mind you, only that it is better than abysmal. It reminded me of the kind of mid-2000s faux-mindbender schlock you would pick up at Blockbuster or watch on TMN, our Canadian equivalent of HBO, in the middle of a wednesday on Summer break.
