I think Henry Cavill works better in this movie than you do, mostly because he plays off his tendency towards what UK film critic Mark Kermode called "plankiness" (as in, "How much of a performance do you want to saw off?") by embracing his inner plank, right down to the ludicrous Marine-style brush cut.

I also think he's a better iconic star than you do—both THE WITCHER and THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. have him livening up in amusing and sometimes touching ways. ZackSnyder! has a LOT to answer for, including making Cavill's best-known performance his plankiest (Snyder's "Gods&Monsters" take on Superman!).

That said, the movie should have been an hour shorter, and is at its weakest when Bryce Dallas Howard's Ellie remembers she's not an unworldly cat lady writer, but a badass superspy. While Dua Lipa can at least LOOK the part of a femme fatale secret agent in the pulpy sub-Fleming universe Vaughn's creating, Howard...looks like a suburban Karen trying to be Sexy Sexy Danger (that haircut and outfit really don't work on her!), and when she should be cutting loose seems on the verge of demanding to Speak to Your Manager.

I don't know how Vaughn could've rewritten it, but the movie would be both shorter and better if Ellie never was anything but an unworldly cat lady writer forced to find her inner badass once she discovers she can't trust anybody, not even her own parents....

I wasn't a huge fan of the "new" Beatles song "Now and Then" when it was released, but I was absolutely exhausted by it once this movie was over.
