I kind of suspect Spiderman 3 would be better received if it was released today. After so many bland, paint-by-numbers superhero movies, it's iconoclastic elements feel wierd, distinct, and playful in a way that's refreshing.
After your right-along-with-the-other-critics pan of MEGALOPOLIS, Nabin, I'm pretty sure you're safe with your professional fellows.
I'll see if my friend wants to see VENOM: THE LAST DANCE—maybe we'll go next weekend if so. I recently talked her into getting a monthly membership to Alamo Drafthouse, so we can get dinner and a movie every day of the month....
Nathan, had you popped a few edibles before writing this one? You spelled "Ubach" correctly on first mention before misspelling it ONE sentence later. The actress who plays Mrs. Chen is a beautiful woman, indeed, but her first name is Peggy, not Kelly. You are on the internet, which permits you to access IMDB and other references as you type. I know you can't afford an editor, but could a friend maybe proofread for you?
The Venom movies are the definition of "you know what, that was perfectly fine." We need to be more forgiving of broad entertainment that is perfectly adequate and, most importantly, under 2 hours minutes long.
I read a negative review of this movie elsewhere, and while it was not a pan, the elements that it called-out as detracting from the film actually made me think I might like it. Which Nathan sort of confirmed here.
I liked the first film well enough, then I avoided the second one because most of the reviews said "Don't Bother" (which is so much worse to me than a pure hatchet piece). I guess I will check both of them out when they rotate onto Netflix, assuming Sony still has a distribution deal with them.
I'm glad someone besides me liked Spider-Man 3. It actually has a 63% score on RT and a 51% Audience score, but I swear that everyone thinks it was total garbage. It even got done by "How Did This Get Made?"
If you ask someone online what they didn't like about it, they'll without fail give you the answer of Dark Spidey dancing. You'd think it was half the movie or critical to the plot or something to hear them tell it. Maybe what it is is that its most vocal haters are the Internet Snarkers, who seldom like anything and who's thoughts typically have the depth of a single meme. The same people made it sound like Batman blowing the bat symbol onto the bridge in TDKR was crucial or that Leia Force-jumping in The Last Jedi was a big deal or made no sense.
"Somehow, Palpatine returned," though, I'll give them that one. That one was a major, stupid plotline boiled down to one line. And one that highlights how much of a handwave it was.
I never understood where Eddie Brock was coming from in these movies. In the first one, he's clearly supposed to be some counterculture internet reporter who takes on... capitalists, I guess?... and the motorcycle and the Tom Hardy body suggests he's a badass. And then more and more, he just kept turning to playing his character as how a jock sees a nerd (which is to say, not entirely uncharitably). So bizarre.

I mean 2 hours not minutes. But if they could fit a venom film in 2 minutes you know what? Cool.
Man, Nathan, you find some great movie posters.

Tell it Nathan! You don't have to apologize for liking anything!!
I have some real objective criticisms of the movie but don’t care because of how silly and fun it was overall.

Hell yeah. Teenage Me probably would be annoyed, but Adult Me is glad to hear they leaned into the silly.
