In a series with some uneven sequels/spinoffs, this one really does stand out as a miss. The lead actor is woefully uninteresting, especially since Thomas Jane was RIGHT THERE and could have been a much more compelling lead.
Also, I didn't know Black had Tourette's which given its representation in the movie makes it seem like some hacky first-time writer material. You know, where you take something that you have in real life that others may not understand or make fun of and turn it into something it's not (funny) or heroic. It's akin to schlubby guys ending up with the pretty girls in countless movies. It makes me wonder what his personal experience is with autism that made him determined to make the hero an autistic super-genius child.
