Oh no! I was so looking forward to seeing this. I guess I made the right call to see Scream VI for a second time on my 40th birthday instead.

It seems 65's writers have a "youth in peril" theme going on. Not just with this and "A Quiet Place" but also in the little horror film "Haunt." To be fair, I know "A Quiet Place" gets a lot of love, and I did enjoy it, but I've gone back to "Haunt" more than once. It's a neat, nasty little wind-up toy of a film. As for 65, I'll take your word for it and move on.

No plot-twist too cheap, no heartstrings tug too low....

I wonder how much producer Sam Raimi had to do with the actual production - it sounds like an idea he tossed off, got a couple guys to write a script, then lost interest until Sony decided "Hey, we could make a movie out of this!"

They signed Adam Driver because he and his wife need a bigger place now that they have a second kid on the way (they live in Brooklyn Heights, so you know buying a condo or co-op takes real money!), or he wants to buy a house for his Mom, or something. Driver, who never watches his movies anyway, is probably channeling Sir Michael Caine in JAWS: THE REVENGE, "I've never seen the movie - but I have seen the house it built, and it is terrific."
