So...you didn't like it?

Is that what you're trying to tell us...?

I remember seeing this right after school on the opening Friday. For some reason the only other people there were a middle-aged mom and her two preteen kids, probably ten years old, getting to see "Freddy Vs. Jason". The movie begins with that opening monologue, and then immediately the gratuitous shot of a woman tearing off her shirt and flashing her breasts to the camera. To which the mother, having taken her kids to see "Freddy Vs. Jason", loudly proclaimed, "Oh, come ON."

Once this movie spitballed the possibility that after nearly a dozen movies Jason's biggest fear was water, I should have guessed what kind of climax lay in wait, but I stuck around anyway. What a silly decision on my part.

The Freddy vs Jason vs Ash comic, which picks up immediately after this movie, is at least fun; some dated insults aside. But that's because it's basically Evil Dead w/ special guest stars.

Thank you! I feel this film did suffer from the Phantom Menace effect wherein these beloved franchises were so disrespected that fans said they actually loved it as some sort of psychic protection from seeing the crossover event they always longed to see and having it suck just, so, so, so much! F vs. J is an awful movie made by people who seemed to almost be contemptuous of the franchises (Ronny Yu admitted he wasn't a fan of either before landing the directing gig) and just the fact that some screenwriter wrote "Freddy elbow drops Jason, Macho Man style" into the script and that made it all the way to the final film makes me hope there's a special place in Freddy's hell for these assholes!

I actually disagree with you on this one. I've seen it several times and have always had fun with it. I'd say it's better than your ex-wife's meatloaf surprise.

I agree about the homophobic slur, though; I wish it wasn't in there. Hard to believe that was okay as recently as 2003.

I thought it was a step up from Nightmare 5 and 6 and much of the Friday series (FWIW, I actually like the Friday the 13th reboot and love Jason X), but still didn't give me what I wanted from a crossover. As far as slurs go, the racist slur that Freddy delivers was cringe-worthy in 2003 (I know I cringed when I heard it). So much so that it seemed to overshadow the homophobic slur. However, there's been a bit of enlightenment over the last couple of decades, so I'm sure it stands out a lot more now.

Going in, I was already put off by the replacement of Kane Hodder allegedly because of the large body size difference between him and Englund. However, I've seen it several times and still enjoy it somewhat - in the same way I enjoyed the last Die Hard somewhat... the same way I enjoy mediocre pizza somewhat.

It's hard to believe that Englund only ever played Kruger one more time after this (unless I'm mistaken), and it was in an episode of The Goldbergs.
