The first time I ever noticed Joaquin Phoenix was when he played a horny, dumbass high school kid who becomes hopelessly infatuated with a pathologically ambitious striver played by Nicole Kidman (in a career best performance) who isn’t above facilitating a little murder to help her career in 1995’s To Die For. I knew then that the kid had a bright future in the motion picture business.
