The Joy of Positivity pick of the day is Get Shorty (1995)
The late Gene Hackman is cast against type as a buffoon in Barry Sonnenfeld's revered adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel.
As career criminal Chili Palmer in the 1995 Elmore Leonard adaptation Get Shorty, John Travolta elevates sitting into an art form and a power move. Chili doesn’t need to stand up or raise his voice to be intimidating. Scott Frank’s marvelous screenplay suggests that Chili can achieve his ends through guile, so he does not have to resort to violence. The mere threat of violence should be enough, but it’s tremendously satisfying when Chili opens a Texas-sized can of whoop-ass.
