Before he was a storm trooper in the Star Wars sequel trilogy John Boyega battled aliens here on earth in the crowd-pleasing 2011 science fiction sleeper hit Attack the Block. Writer-director Joe Cornish’s impressive debut is a joyful throwback to Steven Spielberg-directed and produced science fiction movies from the 1970s and 1980s that juxtaposed the drama and comedy of coming of age with the trippy spectacle of alien encounters.
