Me feel like conservatives hating on Tay-Tay part of larger pattern, where they simply cannot accept that anyone who lives outside of very, very narrow set of choices conservatives make can possibly be happy. It come out in those bizarre memes insisting that women with brightly-colored hair must be lonely and miserable. Or demanding against all reason that cities are dangerous hellholes, despite 30-year-long drop in crime, and most cities' biggest problem being that everything too expensive because so many people want to live where good-paying jobs, culture, infrastructure, and all-around better quality of life are.

But right wingers know *real* story! All those big-city liberals with disposable income, going out every weekend, enjoying their craft beers and non-fast food and higher life expectancy — they're all secretly miserable, me tells ya!

I'm actually kind of inordinately pleased that you like this movie and wrote such a thoughtful review of it. Not because I'm a Swiftie - I'm basically in a similar boat as you as far as not owning or even having listened to any of her albums or being able to pick one of her tunes out of a line-up, and I never plan on seeing this film. But I've been seeing a lot *about* her recently, including Anne Helen Petersen's piece about a week ago about how Swift works hard at managing her PR because not only does she see it as part of the job but because she *likes* it and thinks it's fun. I've been building a level of respect for her that approaches what I feel about Madonna's and Prince's and Bowie's respective careers -- I didn't always like (or have any opinion about at all mostly) the product of what they were doing, but I always liked their professional personas because they took their work seriously and produced it on their own terms, and saw stratospheric levels of success doing so.

The fact that the right-wing hate media and the fascist cranks who follow them have currently got their panties in a twist over her is just gravy.
