Hey you beautiful people! 

It is Black Friday today and there are all sorts of crazy deals available in my store! 

They call it Black Friday because it's supposed to be that wonderful day when you make so much money that it puts you in the black for the entire year.

This has been another challenging year for the site and for me personally, professionally, financially, dentally and in pretty much every other way as well. I was hoping to publish The Fractured Mirror, my massive book about the last 100 years in American movies about the film industry at the end of the year so I'd have an exciting new book for the Christmas season but that is an absolute massive undertaking that has taken me years to write and is 650 pages at the moment and I want to take my time and make sure that it's as exhaustive and amazing as possible. So it won't be published for a few months from now. I'd rather take my time and get it right than rush it for the sake of having a new book for the Christmas season. 

I was hoping that even if I did not have something new I'd still sell some books this Christmas season. 

That hasn't happened. This is supposed to be the best time of the year to sell books and I have literally sold one book in the store on my site in the last week. As is almost invariably the case, the question is not whether I will sell a lot of books, or a modest amount but rather whether I will succeed in selling even a single copy of any of the many versions of the eight books that I've written. Most days the answer is no.

You know what business is EXCEEDINGLY hard? Self-publishing. It's like regular publishing but much, much more difficult and also kind of self-crushing, even when you put out great, professional books like I have been doing for the last three years.
