It's a longtime trend to stick a crime or espionage subplot in an otherwise unrelated premise movie, to give the film some sense of forward-moving plot, stakes etc. My favourite example is National Lampoon's Dorm Daze 2, which has a jewel heistcas one of 30 unrelated, unnecessary and bizarre subplots. If I had infinite money the first thing I'd do would be to pay Nabin to watch that one.
