When I began Nathan Rabin’s Bad Ideas at the start of the year I envisioned it as a sister project to my website Nathan Rabin’s Happy Place. I wanted it to be an extension of the Happy Place while also retaining its own personality and sensibility.
For example I post links to my books, podcast and Patreon page at the bottom of every article in hopes that readers will be intrigued and impressed and spend a little hard earned money on my various business endeavors.
Does it work? Not really! I’m honestly lucky if I sell a book every day or every other day but it certainly sells more than doing nothing does. Also, if I do not aggressively sell my “Weird Al” Yankovic books they don’t sell at all despite the singer’s tremendous popularity.
I don’t post links here because, honestly, I want to seem LESS desperate and needy but I thought it might make sense to remind y’all, or inform y’all, that Joy of Positivity is an extension of the Flaming Garbage Fire extended edition of The Joy of Trash.
It’s more specifically rooted in a promotion I dreamed up to sell The Joy of Trash: Flaming Garbage Fire Extended Edition where I hand-write suggestions for pop culture within a hardcover copy of the extended The Joy of Trash signed by illustrator Felipe Sobreiro and myself and limited to 100 (for the Joy of Positivity promotion) or 50 (for The Joy of Positivity II: The New Batch). I’m down to my last 10! Get em before they’re gone! Buy them from me, directly, here: https://www.nathanrabin.com/shop
I also have EXACTLY 499 followers on Patreon and would LOVE to have at least 500, or more, so that when the inevitable monthly deletions happen in a few weeks I’m not bumped back to 478 again. Y’all can pledge here: https://www.patreon.com/nathanrabinshappyplace
I feel like I’m finally starting to develop a little momentum professionally. True, much of it seems to be pity-based but I’ll accept it! Dignity and desperation do not go hand in hand!
Y’all have been very kind in subscribing to this here newsletter and I sure would appreciate it if you’d at least check out some of my other business and creative enterprises as well.
I have it.
